The Bible is filled with stories of remarkable individuals who demonstrated extraordinary leadership, faith, and courage. Among these, Deborah and Esther stand out as shining examples of women who rose to heights in their respective contexts, leaving a mark of respect to those who came after them. Their stories, as recorded in the book of Judges and the book of Esther, offer valuable lessons for both women and men, highlighting the importance of courage, faith, and strategic influence in leadership.

Deborah, a prophet and judge in Israel, exemplifies strong leadership and faith. Her story in Judges 4-5 shows her confidence and trust in God's guidance, as she rallies the Israelites to take action against their Canaanite oppressors. Deborah's leadership is marked by her willingness to take initiative, her faith in God's promises, and her ability to work with others, such as Barak. Her example demonstrates that effective leadership requires a combination of spiritual insight, courage, and collaboration. In this same story, we encounter Jael, who, using a nail and a hammer, accomplishes a much needed victory for Israel. Leaders do not need titles to lead!

Esther's story, on the other hand, showcases the power of strategic influence and courage in the face of adversity. As queen of Persia, Esther finds herself in a position to save her people from genocide, despite the risks involved. Her famous declaration, "If I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16), shows her willingness to take bold action, trusting that God will work through her efforts. Esther's leadership demonstrates that even in challenging circumstances, individuals can make a significant difference through their actions and decisions.

Other example include:

Rahab, who teaches us what it would mean to seize an opportunity that would enable us to better ourselves and those around us. Great leaders have great insight and are forward-thinking (Joshua 2).

Through Abigael, we learn the importance of wisdom mixed with kindness and self control, especially in dire situations. Leaders focus on the bigger picture while making decisions ( 1 Samuel 5).

Through Elizabeth´s  and Mary´s story, we learn the importance of championing others and offering support in ways that inspire others to believe in themselves as they journey towards the calls on their lives. A ´Mary ´ today could use such strong support from an ´Elizabeth´ and vice versa! Leaders carry others along, and do not hold on tightly to that which must be freely given (Luke 1 :39-56).

Key Lesson For Us

The stories of these women (and many more in the Bible) offer several key lessons for leaders today. Firstly, they highlight the importance of courage and conviction in leadership. These women demonstrated remarkable bravery in the face of challenges, trusting that God would guide and empower them. Secondly, their examples emphasize the value of faith and obedience to God's plans, even when the outcome is uncertain. Finally, their leadership shows that strategic influence and collaboration are essential for achieving positive change and justice. As we seek to make a positive impact in our communities and beyond, we would do well to emulate the examples of these remarkable women, trusting in God's guidance and provision as we lead and serve with love and humility.

Call to Action

We are all leaders. Be the leader you were called to be in your sphere of influence. Be a cheerleader, be courageous,be decisive, and above all, heed God's voice and guidance.

Let us utilize all the gifts and abilities that God has put in us to minister to one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

God can use seemingly ordinary individuals to bring about the extra ordinary!

Joshua 1:9

´´HAVE I NOT COMMANDED THEE? BE STRONG AND OF A GOOD COURAGE; BE NOT AFRAID,NEITHER BE THOU DISMAYED: FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS WITH THEE WITHERSOEVER THOU GOEST.

God Bless You!
